First day of the 21st Edition of Cartoon Movie: a multitude of colourful projects!
Cartoon Movie started on Wednesday 6 March with the presentation of Marc Vandeweyer, Cartoon’s General Director, followed by our main partners of this 21st Edition: Alain Turby, Councillor of Bordeaux Métropole in charge of digital projects, François Bonneau, President of Pôle Image Magelis, Alain Rousset, President of the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Bruno Felix, CEO of Submarine.
This is the third edition in Bordeaux, around 900 participants from 40 countries are here to discover the latest animation feature projects, find business partners, join new projects and network in a relax and convivial atmosphere.
With 333 films financed for a budget of 2.2 billion EUR, Cartoon Movie has a real impact on the market since its creation in 1999. 21 years ago, only 2 or 3 animated films were produced per year in Europe. Today, there are more than 15 films. This shows that the production in Europe has been multiplied by 5, since the launching of Cartoon Movie.
For the third year, a spotlight country has been chosen: the Netherlands! With 6 projects selected this year (and 3 in co-production), the country of honor has a vibrant animation industry and open attitude towards international production.
This opening day was sparkling with promising projects such as "The Ballad of Yaya" by Blue Spirit Productions, "No Dogs or Italians Allowed" by Les Films du Tambour de Soie, "Tre Infanzie" by Offshore, "Terra Willy" by TAT productions, "Marona's Fantastic Tale" by Aparte Film, "The Secret of Birds" by Folimage, "Chicken for Linda!" by Dolce Vita Films, etc.
We thank all our partners and wish you a successful second day at Cartoon Movie!
