On Wednesday 4 March, the day started with the presentation of Marc Vandeweyer, Cartoon’s General Director, followed by our main partners of this 22nd Edition: Stephan Delaux, Deputy Mayor of Bordeaux in charge of economic attractiveness, François Bonneau, President of Pôle Image Magelis, Anne-Laure Bedu, regional advisor in charge of innovation of Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Karin Schockweiler, Deputy Director of the Film Fund Luxembourg.
This fourth edition in Bordeaux is gathering 900 participants from 40 countries. The cancellations due to the coronavirus only reached 8%.
People are here to discover the latest animation feature projects, find business partners, join new projects and network in a relax and convivial atmosphere.
With 365 films financed for a budget of 2.4 billion EUR, Cartoon Movie has a real impact on the market since its creation in 1999. 22 years ago, only 2 or 3 animated films were produced per year in Europe. Today, there are more than 15 films. This shows that the production in Europe has been multiplied by 5, since the launching of Cartoon Movie.
For the fourth year in a row, Cartoon Movie shines a spotlight on the animation of a European country. This year, we celebrate the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, with the support of the Film Fund Luxembourg.
They have 2 films in coproduction at Cartoon Movie: “Ooops, the Adventure continues” & “Molesworth”. Doghouse Studio, a Luxembourg based company, was also nominated as producer of the year for the Cartoon Tributes.
Opened yesterday with the new film of Mariscal and Trueba “They shot the piano player”, the day saw a lot of projects around family, teenagehood and legacy such as “Verte”, “#nofilter”, “Melvile”, “Calamity, a childhood of Martha Jane Cannary”, “Diotime et les Lions”, “The Growcodile”, “D20”, “The Legacy of the Depanurges”, etc.
We thank all our partners and wish you a successful third day at Cartoon Movie!
