Dr. Howl, the talking dog with the soul of a war veterinarian, takes a job at a small suburban clinic. His assistant is the unsocial and conflict-prone Bernadette. Dr. Howl's canine instincts often clash with his human mind, leading to a series of funny situations. At one point, the local community is shaken by dog kidnappings, and Bernadette and Howl uncover criminals organizing illegal dog fights. The situation becomes even more complicated when Dr. Howl recalls his dark past and leaves Bernadette to fix mistakes from his previous life. When Dr. Howl realizes that Bernadette is more important to him than the past, they decide to face the criminals together.
