There are no limits to a child’s imagination. It runs free and can reframe almost anything into an adventure. “Exit Tales” is an animated short documentary series that fuses imagination and reality. It is based on the stories of five children fleeing their homes in Venezuela, Afghanistan, Syria, Guatemala, and South Sudan in order to survive. Through voice-recorded interviews, we learn the story of 5 child refugees. But instead of re-telling events, we focus on their imaginative way of depicting the migrant journey. Using the full capacities of animation, each child will be represented by a fictional character which can freely move between the real and the imaginary world. This serves as a greater metaphor of the consequences of leaving home and having to adapt to a new reality, experiencing xenophobia, and grieving for those left behind, while creating a universal depiction of what it is like to be a migrant.
