Lilly lives with her grandmother and her younger brother Rowan in a valley by a village. One day a train from bygone days appears at the village station that their father once boarded but never returned. Driven by the curiosity of what happened to his father, Rowan sneaks past the gathered folk and climbs on the train. Lilly must act quickly, so she jumps on the train as well, but it is too late to leave as it has already started its course. It takes them on a journey to an underground city, ruled by Queen Dahlia, where people have fled because of the pollution they created on the surface. Lilly and Rowan must persuade Queen Dahlia that there are others living out on the surface. as well as find their long lost father.
