Madrid's audiovisual industry has great potential in the production of both series and live-action and animated feature films. It is home to 46% of audiovisual production companies and around 35% of animation and VFX companies in Spain.
Animation talent and Madrid are closely linked. From Madrid comes Oscar-winning director Alberto Mielgo (“The Windshield Wiper”), also known for his piece “Jíbaro” from Love, Death and Robots. You can also find in Madrid the studio of Oscar nominated director Sergio Pablos (“Klaus”).The successful film franchise “Tadeo Jones”,“Luck”, the film produced by Skydance for Apple TV or El Guiri Studio responsible for “Sith”, a short film of “Star Wars: Vision” by Rodrigo Blaas, as well as series such as the multi-awarded “Pocoyó”, and the acclaimed film “Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles”, were all created and produced in Madrid.
Animation and VFX studios are part of a wide range of infrastructures available in the Community of Madrid, a hub for audiovisual production. It is a place with competitive companies and a welcoming environment for visitors.
The Community of Madrid is committed to boosting the audiovisual industry in the region. The Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports provides considerable support for the development of animation, offering 40,000€ for series and 50,000€ feature films. Additionally, it offers funding of 25,000€ for the production of animated short films and 175,000€ for animated feature films. The Madrid Film Office also offers numerous supports to the animation industry.
Companies based in Madrid not only offer foreign investors and production companies with highly skilled professionals and competitive economic costs, but also remain as one of the most important European hubs for the animation sector.
Institutional support to the audiovisual industry, and particularly to the animation sector, is provided through financial aid, training, promotion, networking and dynamisation.
